I was born in 1958 in a small village in the Midlands of England. Our family moved to Scotland when I was four, early enough for me to take on the disguise of a Scotsman! We lived in the lovely village of Fintry in the Campsie Fells, 20 miles north of Glasgow. As a lad I loved being outside; my 2 main hobbies being birdwatching and fishing. On leaving school I went to University in Glasgow.

Naively I thought people went to university to study but I was soon set straight by new friends in the student bar; drinking, listening to music, parties and the occasional lecture when you could fit it in. Three years into this new lifestyle its attractions had began to pall and I began to ask myself the big questions "is this all there is to life?

Whats it all about then?, what am I here for? I had caught the self questioning bug badly. Eventually in search of a cure I wound up at a Buddhist meditation class. A year later I had scraped through my degree and was living with the Buddhists and meditating regularly.

12 years ago I moved to Dhanakosa Buddhist Retreat Centre to help with the running of Buddhist retreats. Not long after the manager of the centre gave me a couple of rolls of slide film and asked me to go out and take some photos for our publicity. Disappointed at the slides that came back I started to teach myself about photography through books, magazines and going out and learning from my mistakes. Photography is now a passion for me and has become an integral part of my life.

It seems to me that the childhood theme of loving being in the great outdoors now carries on as I stand for hours on windswept hillsides and lochshores watching the play of light on the landscape.

Now, my photography has reached a stage where I aspire to bring a more spiritual dimension to it, so it becomes more of a meditation in its own right and not the mere grabbing of a picture. I’m certainly not there yet, but it feels exciting and challenging. This is something I hope to be able to develop and communicate through this website.
